For more than six decades, students have taken hands-on learning experiences to the next level by building homes from the ground up together across Lancaster.

Nearly a dozen faculty and approximately 150 students collaborate on this unique initiative each year. The college’s associate degree carpentry technology program takes the lead on the project, second-year students and faculty from the masonry construction technology, cabinetmaking and wood technology, 暖通空调/ R, 管道技术 也参与. In addition, faculty and students from the College’s electrical construction and maintenance certificate program 也参与.

每年, these academic programs collaborate to construct a duplex in Lancaster County, with emphasis on providing high-quality, affordable housing in and around Lancaster City. Completed homes have repeatedly won the prestigious 富尔顿银行奖

The home construction project is made possible by numerous donations and in-kind contributions of raw materials.

“This initiative helps our students recognize that they are capable of doing the high end work that it takes to produce award winning homes. This initiative truly helps build their confidence as they begin their careers. They will always have the opportunity to drive by the homes that they helped build and take pride in what their class accomplished.” – Dan McCord, Carpentry Instructor at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology
